Wah Wing Chan
Wah Wing Chan’s theme are non-representational marks that exists on his daily walk from his home to his studio. Most people experience their daily lives, unaware of the visual possibilities that surround them, rarely realizing that non-figurative marks and forms live amongst them. My eye can be drawn to the unobserved artistic possibilities of a crack in the middle of the street, a ball of tangled wire, a water stain on the side of a wall, a crinkled-up rusted piece of metal. My eyes are always searching for these man-made, or nature formed, these neglected visual elements that surround me; things that people passes by without giving them a second glance. Chan’s interested lie in creating a dialogue with these gestural marks, textures and forms on the surface of the paper. In using these neglected mundane visual elements, my intent is to draw inspiration from them, create my own imageries and not to represent them exactly as they are. It is my desire is to bring these elements to light, showcasing the unrealized possibilities of these abstract marks to the public.
