Paul-Émile Rioux
I live in Montreal, Canada, and have been working with digital media for the last fifteen years.
Through my work as a photographer, I became fascinated by contemporary urban environments and I started to explore links between consumer culture, politics and technology.
I named this series LANDCUTS. In these works, the “cut” is a piece of land that I frame, construct and build, using photography, computer programs, 3-D models – to mix and match reality and invention in order to take the viewers to places, both inward and alien, that could exist in the real world as well as in a virtual one.
In the LANDCUTS series I carry on with my exploration-invention of place and non-place, exposing the immanent structures of the City and his Suburb as a set of perceptions and power conflicts, transformed and confined by the physical viral structure that grows from them.
LANDCUTS is a statement on our shifting relationship to space and place and on the way we think our environment and nature.
