The art exhibit

The art exhibit to be held this November in Istanbul, entitled “Haydarpasa Railway Station: Past. Present and Uncertain Future”, is a cultural event which seeks to raise awareness both in Turkey and internationally about the plight of this
great yet endangered (by privatisation and neglect) public place. Canadian and Turkish artists, printmakers and photographers will be participating in this show, which will be an occasion to collect funds for the Haydarpasa Station Preservation Project (HSPP) , which under the auspices of the World Monuments Fund (http://www.wmf.org/) has been instrumental in advocating for the station’s preservation and restoration. The thematic of the exhibit to show how art work can be integrated within a public space. This show also wishes to demonstrate how the site itself can serve as a meeting and gathering place for the citizenry, while remaining a fully functional transportation hub and a viable cultural venue as well.
